What is MINNESOTA HEAT? |
Minnesota Heat is one of the largest basketball organizations in the country. It offers boys in grades 4 through 11 the opportunity to play basketball at a highly competitive level in two seasons, fall and spring. Our Minnesota Heat Classic teams are formed at D1, D2, and D3 levels. Our traveling Premier teams are formed from the best players at every grade and travel regionally and sometimes nationally. |

2. |
Do you offer pre-registration? |
Our BOYS program does offer pre-registration and we strongly encourage both pre-registration and pre-payment in order to save YOUR time on tryout night. (A typical spring tryout for Boys Heat is 400-500 players.)
Our registration and waiver forms are available on our website for printing, and can be filled out by you in advance to save time and to minimize long lines on tryout night.
DOCUMENTS: In the Spring you will need a birth certificate and something that proves your child’s grade (report card, school ID, letter from school). |
3. |
What if my child cannot attend either tryout? |
Email Biren or Willie and let them know - addresses are on our website. It is possible that we will still be able to get them on a team. |
4. |
Can my child request to be on the same team as someone else? |
Yes, we have a spot where that can be requested on the registration form. We will do our best to honor these requests; however, Minnesota Heat cannot guarantee that players will be placed on teams together. Final team makeup depends on the number of players we have trying out in an age group and the skill level of all players. |
5. |
What weekends will my child play? |
In the spring, the season schedule is not released until after tryouts, so we will not know what weekends your child will play on until after tryouts. In the fall season, players will typically play the last two Sundays in September and the first two in October. |

6. |
Do Heat teams travel out of state? |
All of our spring Heat Premier teams have out of state tournaments on their schedules. Some of our Classic teams may chose to play an out of state tournament as well. Coaches will discuss all out of state travel plans/extraordinary expenses with all potential players before teams are formed. |
7. |
What nights will my child practice? |
We will not know practice schedules until after tryouts. Practice dates will vary depending on the team and coach schedule. |
8. |
Can my child play both baseball/football/soccer/another sport and play for the Heat? |
Many Heat players play multiple sports. Our Heat coaches endeavor to be flexible as we try to tailor to our athletes’ schedules. |
9. |
Who do we make checks payable to? |
10. |
Is there a tryout fee? |
Yes, we do charge a tryout fee. The fee is published each year and is based directly on the costs associated with holding the tryout. This fee is NON-refundable. |
11. |
Do you offer winter basketball? |
We do not offer winter basketball. We strongly encourage all our players to play with their high school/community teams. |
12. |
What level of competition is available in spring and fall? How competitive are the games compared to the regular winter season? |
Spring and fall leagues generally offer Division 1 (high A), Division 2 (low A high B), and Division 3 (B-C) brackets. Like winter, the level of competition varies greatly, but many players feel that spring and fall are extremely competitive environments that provide them with an opportunity to build on and improve their skills for the regular season. |

13. |
What is done at Heat tryouts? |
Players participate in drills and some 3 on 3 scrimmages along with 5 on 5. Players are evaluated on basketball fundamentals, sportsmanship, and game skills. Tryout evaluators determine a player’s skill level so they can be placed on an appropriately leveled team. |
14. |
How are players placed on teams? |
Heat coaches use the written evaluation results from tryouts to form the best, most balanced teams for each level of competition. All coaches’ decisions are final. |
15. |
How many kids are on a team? |
10 or less. We do not go over 10 players unless we have permission from the team beforehand, or know in advance that there are players on the team who will miss significant time. Our goal is to keep teams at 9 players.
