Our program is run out of New Brighton, MN and surrounding north metro suburbs. We will run satellite teams in other parts of the metro from time to time.

Do you offer pre-registration?

Our program does offer pre-registration in the spring and we strongly encourage both pre-registration and pre-payment in order to save YOUR time during tryouts.

We do not have pre-registration in the fall. All registration is done on site at tryouts.

What is the length of the season?

All teams will start practice in early April. All teams will be done by mid/end June except the Tier 1 Premier teams (typically 15U and up) who will play into July.

How many tournaments will we play?

Teams will play anywhere from 5-8 tournaments depending on the tier they participate in. That information can be found on the spring flyer.

Where are practices located?

Practices are twice per week, 90 minutes per practice. Locations are listed under the “More” tab in the main menu.

MN Heat coaches are strongly encouraged not to help with player transportation. Transportation is a responsibility of the parents.

Is there a tryout fee?

Yes, we do charge a tryout fee. The fee is published each year and is based directly on the costs associated with holding the tryout. This fee is NON-refundable.

Do you offer winter basketball?

We do not offer winter basketball. We strongly encourage all our players to play with their high school/community teams during that time.

can my child participate in other sports while playing for the heat?

Many Heat players play multiple sports. Our Heat coaches will be flexible as we try to tailor to our athletes’ schedules as we know that everything does not revolve around spring basketball. If your son or daughter wants to play spring basketball and plays another sport, we will work with you.

HOw are players placed on teams?

Heat coaches use the written evaluation results from tryouts to form the best, most balanced teams for each level of competition. All coaches’ decisions are final.

How many players are on each team?

10 or less. We do not go over 10 players unless we have permission from the team beforehand, or know in advance that there are players on the team who will miss significant time. Our goal is to keep teams at 9-10 players.

can i request to be on the same team as another player?

Yes, we have a spot where that can be requested on the registration form. We will do our best to honor these requests; however, the Minnesota Heat cannot guarantee that players will be placed on teams together. Final team makeup depends on the number of players we have trying out in an age group and the skill level of all players.

Do you recruit players?

Yes, some players are recruited to Heat tryouts to be in our Heat Premier program.

Do you offer scholarships?

We do offer scholarships for a number of players that compete in our program during the spring.  Due to the large number of scholarship requests that we receive each spring, we ask that you contact our Scholarship Director, Kelly Lund at mnheatscholarships@gmail.com and ask if a scholarship is still available.  She will walk you through the process and help to determine if you are eligible to receive a scholarship or not.

We WILL NOT be accepting walkup scholarships on the day of tryouts. Please contact Kelly prior to tryouts for scholarship inquiries.
