The Minnesota Heat is the provider of many basketball opportunities for kids in grades 4 - 11 to play basketball that might not otherwise have the opportunity. Last year, we gave out over $40,000 worth of scholarships for kids. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, the Heat appreciates those that help support our mission of working with as many kids as possible to play basketball even if they are not financially able to play.
In 2016, the Minnesota Heat has decided to modify the process for the scholarship program to ensure that those who need the most are receiving sufficient financial assistance.
Last year, Minnesota Heat was able to help over 80 kids play basketball that wouldn't have otherwise been able to play. Minnesota Heat intends to help as many as possible this upcoming season as well but to do so, we are asking that people disclose specific financial information (which will be held with the utmost confidentiality) that can help the Heat determine the level of scholarship (full or partial) and the amount to ensure we are able to help as many people as possible.
To the left, you will see the documents required for submission. One is the Scholarship Application form we require all scholarship applicants to fill out prior to or at tryouts. You can also submit your scholarship application electronically by filling out our online form here. The second is a document that specifies the proof of income we require as a way to verify the information you provide in the application. Your application will not be processed unless we receive both the application and the proof of income.
Once we receive this information, your child will be allowed to try out for the Heat. Please note, the $20 registration fee is mandatory at tryouts along with a $130 season fee. This is required for all scholarship applicants. Once tryouts have been completed, rosters will be formed, and depending on the information provided to us as well as the pricing of your child's team, a scholarship amount will then be provided to you with the amount due to be paid on April 17th.
Additionally, we will have an online scholarship meeting in which we will discuss the scholarship program expectations, fundraising obligations and sign up to work a few hours at various Minnesota Heat events.
Please note, should you not fulfill any of the requirements set forth in the Scholarship Agreement, your child may be removed from their team immediately.
If you have any questions about this process, please review the checklist on the left.
We look forward to assisting those in need this upcoming spring. Should you have any questions, please reach out to mnheatscholarships@gmail.com
Thanks and Heat Always Rises!

The Minnesota Heat began in 2005 as a program which gave kids, regardless of their ability level, a chance to play competitive basketball in the fall and spring seasons. Over time, the program evolved to provide access to participation regardless of ability level, gender or economic status. In 2012, the program had almost 60 teams, including 10 girls teams which were incorporated during the spring 2012 season. Teams are composed of players from communities across the Twin Cities metro area with some participants coming from greater Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The Minnesota Heat believes every child should be included and given a chance to play and this spirit has contributed to the Heat growing into one of the largest youth organizations in the region.
